The Tahiono Retreat is a single self contained accommodation unit suitable for singles or couples. It is situated in Liku Village on the pristine East Coast of Niue. Short to medium stays welcome (one week minimum).
Ideal for artists, writers or eco-tourists. The East coast of Niue offers ideal medium adventure hiking and its forest tracks are highly suitable for mountain biking of which we have two. This is the windward side of the island which is a wild wonderland of rockpool strewn reefs, rugged cliffs, limestone karst landscape and impenetrable coastal forest. Our living space is modest while having all the standard facilities. But the energetic and curious visitor to Niue will have little time to spend indoors.
It is situated 16 km from the main town of Alofi while Niue's ring road is 67km around, so a rental vehicle is essential.
As we only have 1 unit, we offer our visitors the most personal and authentic experience Niue has to offer, while directing them toward the path less trampled. Guests are always greeted upon arrival at the airport.

Tahiono Retreat Reviews
We stayed at Tahiono Retreat for 2 weeks and it was the best holiday we have ever had. Mark and Ahi went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The unit was so clean, cosy, homely and had everything we needed there. It was in a peaceful and serene setting with nature on your doorstep, close to the beautiful Liku Reef and the special rainforest. We definitely recommend this retreat to anyone who is after a unique and memorable experience in Niue. Thank you Mark and Ahi for everything that you did for us. We can’t wait to see you again next year!!

Your reply: It was a privilege to have you guys.
We had a nice relaxing stay with Mark and Ahi in the small village of Liku. After staying in Alofi for a few days we decided to go across to the other side of the island and stay with Mark and Ahi for our last few days.
The main attractions on the island are mainly around Alofi so it was great to get away from the rest of the tourists and explore the roughed western side of the island. Mark and Ahi are very friendly and welcoming and there accomodation is nice and clean with everything you need. Its like a homestay where they like to get you involved and show you around. If you want a real Niuean experience then you should spend a few nights here during your stay.

Your reply: Always good to have someone to hike with. Sorry no phone. Beyond our control but working on it. Oh BTW, we are on the East side of Niue. Easy mistake as the prevailing winds are opposite to that of NZ.
We stayed mid-July 2014 with Mark and Ahi at their retreat in Liku after finding it on the internet. Had a great time, Mark and Ahi were fantastic hosts, advising on local attractions, the best places to eat-swim-snorkel-and and activities, even inviting us to a bbq. We'll be back in the future, hopefully not too far away!

Your reply: Great to have you stay Martin and Sharon, would have been pretty tough bringing those fish back up to the village by myself. See you next time.
We stayed in Mark and Ahi's accommodation for 17 nights this month and absolutely loved it. Having been to Niue before, we were interested in seeing new places in Niue "off the beaten track" and seeing how Niueans live. We loved the location, being within the small village of Liku and close to incredible sea tracks on the east side of Niue. Mark and Ahi offer a personal experience that you can't get from staying in a motel or resort, and this gives you an appreciation of Niue life that you won't get through other forms of travel. We loved Mark's smoker; having smoked swordfish is a real treat! So is freshly caught crayfish from the ocean and fresh pawpaw from the tree. We can't say enough of the "killer" walk to the blowhole and reef pools close to Liku- astoundingly beautiful. So happy with our choice of accommodation- it really made our trip memorable. Thank you Mark and Ahi!

Your reply: Thanks for the great review Darci and Andrew. We really enjoyed your stay and your appreciation of our environment. You are the model guests that we hope will come to Niue in the future, not only to stay with us but anywhere in Niue. Thanks for understanding Niue as it should be understood. Next time though I'll make sure I'm a little fitter and we'll choose a cooler day to do any punishing hikes.
'Mark and Ahi are helpful and generous in their time and hospitality; Really enjoyed the location on the east side of the island of Niue, which was within easy access to the reef; Wonderful hospitality, including beautiful crayfish, smoked fish, paw-paw, and other local delicacies cooked for us; Accommodation afforded privacy within local village life, with a wonderful deck area on the edge of the Bush; A pleasure to be surrounded by Mark's art and photography'.

Your Reply: A great pleasure to have you stay Andrew and Sue, the first visitors from so far away. Thanks also for the time you spent "edutaining" the local kids. A long way to come, but look forward to next time.
